These instructions will install Gunter Teson's Real Engine version 1.1 for the Douglas DC3.

These files have been optimised to suit the DC3 ONLY and will work in FS9 and FSX

Installation
-------

1. 	Copy the folder REALENGINEDC3 to the PANEL folder of your chosen DC3 aircraft in your 			AIRCRAFT folder (FS9) or SIMOBJECTS\AIRPLANES folder (FSX).

2.	MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR PANEL.CFG FILE

3.	Copy ALL the files from the XXXXXX folder to this new folder in your PANEL folder.

4.	Copy or move the files 
		dsd_xml_sound3.gau and
		dsd_xml_sound3_RealEngine_v10.ini
	from the RealEngineDC3 folder into the main fs./Gauges folder if you want to have sound 		effects active (gear/flaps failure sounds only). No need to overwrite if you already have 		dsd_xml_sound3.gau in the gauges folder.

5.	Copy or move the file
		"RealEngine bkg.bmp"
	from the RealEngineDC3 folder into the main PANEL folder of your aircraft.


6.	Add the following entries into the panel.cfg of the aircraft in question:

	(A)	At the end of the [Window Titles] section at the top of the panel.cfg, as last entry:
		WindowYY=RealEngine

		Example: If Window05=... is the last entry in the [Window Titles] section, add 
		Window06=RealEngine

	(B)	In the [Views] section, add the whole following (long) entry including the separator 			line (//----) at the to the appropriate place, just after the last [Window..] entry:
			(YY = same number as used in the [Window Titles] section.)

		If you prefer a blank (transparent) background, replace the 2 lines...

		The numbers for gauge00.......18,22 represent the horizontal (from left) and vertical 		(from top) position of the ReaEngine Status Panel on the screen. Change the numbers 			to suit your particular situation.


7.	Add the following line to the main panel section [Window00] after the last gauge and replace 		the NN to number it sequentially.....
		gaugeNN=RealEngineDC3!RealEngine Icon,  7,578,20,20 

	The numbers 7,578 represent the horizontal (from left) and vertical (from top) position of 		the icon on the main panel. Change the numbers to suit your particular situation.

8.	SAVE THE FILE
	
9.	Read ALL the documentation

10.		Start the sim
	Cycle to the 2D panel after loading the aircraft. 
	After loading the aircraft the failure effects will only become active after the failure 		module gauges have been open in the active window. By default the failure modules are open in 	the 2D panel, so if you fly with the 3D panel, cycle to the 2D panel at least once after 		loading the aircraft.


		-------------------NOTES-----------------------

The parameters for;
			Manifold pressures
			RPM
			CHT
			Oil temp
			Gear and flaps operating speeds

are as best as I could determine from available literature, but, if anything they are slightly on the conservative side. The MP and RPM figures were difficult to match the RealEngine definitions of climb, cruise etc. So if anyone has suggestions please feel free to comment. You can always edit the files (refer the pdf manual in the RealEngineDC3 folder).

The status panel only displays current settings for engine 1, engine 2 has the same failure configuration as engine 1. If your throttle, RPM and mixture settings are matched for both engines any failures will occurr simultaneously (or close to it). If you set your throttle, RPM and mixture settings independently, failures will occur independently for each engine as they exceed safe limits.

Don't forget your operating speed for gear down, this is the maximum landing speed. If you lower your gear below the maximum extension speed then land above the operating speed you will see a nice fireworks display. I know because I tried it.
